Omega and 1948 St Moritz Winter Olympic Games

The Olympic Games held again after its last interruption for 12 years later. The athletes all over the world gathered together again. Although it was just after national wars, but its attraction was no loss.

In 1948 St Moritz Winter Olympic Games, Omega Company used electric eye for first time. And it sent its experts and provided timing device all by itself. It also led the fashion of the Olympic Games.

During the Olympic Games, Omega’s team which consisted of five people worked in a converted Chevrolet. They set shockproof device inside the car so as to avoid damage for sensitive small components. On their car roof, they wrote “Omega Olympic Timing” which could be said as a small advertisement.

The electric could work from 20 Degrees Celsius to 20 Degrees Celsius below zero. Its excellent performance praised by Marcel Sus – the journalist of the famous West Swiss Radio. He said in his report that timing service was very outstanding! This was one huge achievement of Swiss timepiece industry and tabulation computing technique. It witnessed our Swiss timepiece industry lived up to world’s expectation and accomplished its mission.

This event made Omega watch became the focus of the whole world again.
